Getting a visa to travel to Tanzania and Kenya - Udare Safari

Passport

To enter Tanzania and Kenya it is necessary to prove their passport is valid least six months from the date of entry into the country of destination.

Visa

Tanzania

The visa can be obtained upon arrival at the country, either at the airport or land border.

Since 2005 the rates applied by the authorities are:

  • Ordinary or tourist visa valid for up to 90 days: US $50 or 50€.
  • Or multiple business visa valid for 6 months to 2 years: US $100 or 100€.
  • Transit visa: US $30 or 30€.

There is an additional tax of US $5 payable in cash on all ongoing flights from Zanzibar Airport.

Kenya

As of September 1, 2015 travelers may not apply for visas at airports in Nairobi and Mombasa, and must instead obtain online or at an embassy in Kenya.

With regard to the online visa application, it has to be done through https://account.ecitizen.go.ke/register where the applicant must register and follow different steps under «Department of Immigration Services».

Visa application details are below:

  • It must have a photo and a copy of the scanned passport.
  • The application process and granting the visa may take up to a week, so this process should be started well in advance of the planned trip.
  • Payment is required by credit card or debit card.
  • Once receiving email notification of visa approval, the applicant must register on the website to print the visa, to be presented at the point of access to Kenya.
